@Nina we stopped mid-rush ticket printer freezes by putting our TM-U220 on a small UPS and a Kasa smart plug; when it locks, expo taps the plug and it’s back in about 10 seconds. Small caveat: if the POS spooler’s the culprit, we switch to a “KDS-only” route until service wraps.

What fixed our TM-U220 freezes was setting the driver to ‘Print directly to the printer’ and turning off ‘Enable bidirectional support’ in Windows; slight downside is the POS pauses a tick longer after print, but we haven’t had a mid-rush lockup since — worth a try?

And one thing that stopped our kitchen printer going ‘offline’ was setting a DHCP reservation and, in Windows > Printer Properties > Ports > Configure Port, switching to RAW 9100 and unchecking ‘SNMP Status Enabled’ — it hasn’t ghosted us since. @Nina your UPS trick is solid; just note this only helps if the printer’s on Ethernet, not USB. Like duct tape for Windows networking, ugly but it holds during the rush.

Alongside @hugo_ross88’s port tweaks, what steadied ours was uploading the logo to the printer (“NV logo”) and printing tickets as plain text so it isn’t spooling big images — like putting the menu in the printer’s brain. If you’re already text-only, a tiny UPS on just the printer stopped our brownout dropouts.

We stopped random dropouts by putting the ticket unit on a small “mini-UPS”; fryer kick-ons were causing tiny voltage dips that rebooted it. If your power’s already clean, also turn off the device’s power-saver so it doesn’t nap between tickets.
